We love and revere the Bible... The Bible is the word of God. It is always identified first in
our canon, our "standard works." - Jeffrey R Holland
Do Mormons read the Bible? Do Mormons believe in the Bible? How do Mormons feel about the Bible?
These are just a few of the bible related questions that Mormons sometimes hear. The reality is,
we love the Bible, we study the Bible, we carry the Bible with us to church. We have the Bible
in our homes, we teach our children Bible stories... we even watch Veggie Tales.
In the Mormon church, we use the King James Version (KJV) of the bible (for english speaking countries).
There are many translations of the Bible, and we feel that some are more correctly translated than others.
I personally own the KJV version, the Louis Segond version, the Bible of Jerusalem, and an official liturgial version.
I also have Greek and Latin versions of the New Testament, but those don't count because I can't read them... yet.
Some of my favorite scriptures are from the Bible. I've read the Old Testament
through at least once in English and French, and the New Testament multiple times (though, I admit, it has been
a few years). I am currectly reading both the Old and New Testaments in my personal scripture study.
At church on Sunday, Mormons study one volume of their canon every year. The Old and New Testaments are
in our rotation, and when we are studying them, we make a point of going through them with as much
care and pondering as our Sunday School time allows over the course of a year. We're also encouraged
to read in the Bible daily at home personally and in our families.
So, if the question is whether Mormons study, read, and love the Bible, the answer is "yes!" Mormons
absolutely do love the Bible, read the bible, and strive to understand and apply its teachings.
